Hey all!
It's been a while, huh? How have you been? Did you eat enough nutrients? Probably, since you're reading this, it's safe to assume you're alive.
Some big news on our side: We launched Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox, Epic Games, and STOVE! Wherever you wanna play Cricket, you can do that now!
If you don't know what Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game is, maybe check out the game page here!
The game came out on 9/19/2024, and leading up to the end I was crunching a lot, there wasn't much time to do anything else other than work, eat, and catch 2-3 hours of sleep for about 6 months. So after a victory lap, now's the time for us to get back on track!
Why are we back here, you may be asking? Aren't blogs kind of a thing of the past?
Over the course of the holidays, I had some time to think. I had thoughts about how the internet may be in a phase of fragmenting, going back to folks having their own websites and cultivating their own little pockets of the web.
In particular, the negativity of Twitter, et. al., and how they reward said negativity had me thinking that maybe a giant public forum isn't the best thing for the world, especially now that the gaming sphere has become rather hostile to game developers and audiences alike. I had thoughts about how the algorithms at play don't reward artists and creators anymore, but will reward those who espouse negativity about art and creations. "Content" is no longer what is produced, it's "content" about "content".
What I want to do here with you all is embrace our community for Cricket, and have an open dialogue.
If you would rather something more immediate, there's also our Discord!
So what are we gonna do here? What can you expect in this blog going forward?
How about:
Behind the scenes
Development notes
Cut content
Q&A
There was a lot in Cricket that we didn't end up using or had removed due to time. Here's a great example.
We had some ideas for enemies that ended up not being in the final game.
Ice skating Ostrich, the plot around which was about stopping a gang from crashing the concert that DID appear in the final game.
A doll that stared at you, the plan was for it to be like a Tonberry from Final Fantasy. The thing is, I'm scared of Grover from Sesame Street, so you can see why that's here.
A sadistic little toaster, based on the movie.
A cardboard box, because we needed something common to fight.
A peg legged pigeon, I forgot why I wrote this one, but the eyebrows are definitely something I'd want on something like this.
Expect more things like that in the future! I'll end this post here for now, got any questions? Are there any specific topics you'd like me to cover from Cricket? Any questions I can answer about the game itself? Join the Discord or ask in the comments section on this very website, I look forward to hearing from you!
